Physics Olympics 2011

Braving over a foot of snow, students, teachers and parents participated in the annual Physics Olympics held at Monmouth Regional High School on January 15, 2011. Forty-four six-member teams from 21 High School joined together in friendly competition to put their physics knowledge to the test. The students competed in six events consisting of: The Fermi question, the egg throw, the newspaper bridge, the tennis ball catapult, the balloon powered vehicle and the boomerang throw. James Caldwell HS took first place overall with Madison taking second overall and Manchester taking third overall. Bergen took first in the Fermi question event, Madison took first in the egg throw event, Williamstown took first in the catapult event, Old Bridge took first in the balloon powered vehicle event and West Deptford took first in the boomerang event.

Sponsored by NJAAPT since the mid-1970s, the event was organized by Dr Fred Pregger and Mr. Jud Fink, formerly physics professors from The College of New Jersey, and was held there until the mid–1990s when it moved to Rutgers University. From 2000 until the present, Monmouth Regional HS has sponsored the event.
