Today the students will first be introduced briefly to the course requirements. Each student will be supplied with copies of "Honors Physics" and "Class Notes". A copy of the grading policy, the first four homework assignments and the first lab will likewise be distributed. Students will also be informed that they are expected to maintain their work in a 3 ring binder with 3 areas: laboratory procedures, homework, and tests & quizzes.Students are likewise to be informed that they are each expected to go to the website at www.jimthx.vze.com and fill in and submit the student information form found there. |
Laboratory #1: Today the students will begin their lab procedure on freefall. This is the most important lab of the year and sets the standard for all following labs. Today the students will begin collecting data in the freefall lab and will begin their analysis of same. The students will be expected to make use of a computer spreadsheet in their analyses.
Do Now: - Analyze and report on velocities and accelerations.

Today the students will be introduced to the concepts of velocity and acceleration where:v = Dd/Dt and a = Dv/DtThese two relationships will be important throughout the school year! They will likewise begin the Lab 1:1 Freefall - this lab will continue through next Wednesday at which time the students will selectively do oral and written lab reports. |
The first quizzes will be given early next week on basic
kinematics [HW1:1-2] and then on graphical analysis
