Today the students will first be introduced briefly to the course requirements. A copy of the grading policy, the first four homework assignments and the first lab will likewise be distributed. Students will also be informed that they are expected to maintain their work in a 3 ring binder with 3 areas: laboratory procedures, homework, and tests & quizzes.
Students are likewise to be informed that they are each expected to go to the website at www.jimthx.vze.com and fill in and submit the student information form found there.

Assign: HW1:1 #1-5 Kinematics Displacement & Velocity

Today the students will be introduced to the concepts of velocity and acceleration where:

            v =
Dd/Dt    and   a = Dv/Dt

Today the students will begin collecting data in the freefall lab and will begin their analysis of same. The students will be expected to make use of a computer spreadsheet in their analyses. The students can choose to either use their own software or make use of the ClarisWorks or Excel programs available in the classroom.

Assign: HW1:1 #1-5 Kinematics Displacement & Velocity
Laboratory #1: Today the students will begin their lab procedures on freefall. This is the most important lab of the year and sets the standard for all following labs.
Reading assignment: Class Notes - Unit 1 - One Dimensional Kinematics
The first quizzes will be given early next week on basic kinematics [HW 1&2] and then on graphical analysis
[HW 3-6].
Assign: HW1:1 #6-10 Kinematics Displacement & Velocity
